This list could be infinite, but I have gathered the majors of the majors here to share with you.
Things I have learned in 2007:
.) Sometimes the past is just the past. Not an indicator of the future, not a re-living of what has been. It's just the past. Passed. A verb tense. A collection of things that have already happened. That's all.
.) Sanity doesn't have a price tag. Sure working part-time leaves me without means for the privacy I'm used to, travel expenses or the dough for a new vehicle. It also leaves me with plenty of time to digest the lessons I'm being taught. It provides me with time to read into theory further, contemplate and form opinions of things in a full way. It provides me focus of thought. It allows me to make the most of Naropa.
.) Promise sometimes = fear. Only having one and a half years more of grad school left scares me -- in a really good way. Publishing? Teaching? Another country? PhD program? Where will I live, what will I do first?
.) Time flies. [this is an ongoing lesson] I've been back in Brevard for a year now...and in that time, I feel like I've done at least two or three worth of growing. In large part, due to #2.
.) Rushing is overrated. Flowers smell great. Food is amazing. Music floats on clouds. Stars are breathtaking. However, none of this is truly enjoyed when you're running. I've allowed the grass to grow under my feet a little. It's softer than I thought it would be. I am right where I belong for the time being. Staying in one place feels less like a prison than I thought it would...
.) Misery and hopelessness are only as close as you let them be in any given situation.
.) I love surf clam.
.) Pinching yourself is a waste of time. Just enjoy what goodness comes your way as fully as you can. You deserve it. Don't worry it away.
.) Happiness is not a science.
.) Having a 4.0 is one of the best feelings in the world.
.) I really, really miss throwing parties...and until I have my own space again...I'm making due. Cooking for people who are deserving is so rewarding - even if I have to do it in kitchens I don't call my own.
.) Having my financial house in order makes for peaceful sleep.
.) The unexpected is the only thing we can expect.
.) I have a lot to learn about meditation.
.) Expectations hurt. Try to have as few as possible and you will be rewarded with many smiles to be had.
.) It was SO worth the wait.
.) My horoscope is a bunch of crap.
.) The most expensive parfum has a short life span.
.) Some people are just worth it. Some are less so. Either way, give to get.
.) Crying is not a weakness. Instead, it's an amazing strength.
.) 80% of the people I share my life with are not in my zip code. This doesn't make me feel any less loved or fulfilled. Distance is only as vast as the effort you make.
.) Sometimes the things you don't get are the best things you end up with.
.) My dad's been right all along -- "TTT" (things take time). I'm still working on the whole patience thing...
.) Life is more fun in a goofy hat.
.) I am very, very, very fortunate.
